Dan's Journey

Dan is a New Hampshire native, but calls Newburyport MA home where he lives with his wife and sons. Dan's retail journey began in Chicago with the team at AMER Sports and Wilson Sporting Goods.  He helped grow the Wilson global business with partnerships in Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan, Japan, and Thailand.  Timberland was Dan's next brand adventure, which brought him back to the Northeast working with a brand that was exploding in popularity.  As the Director of International Operations he negotiated distribution agreements, established subsidiaries, and led a team that managed and grew the retail operations. While at Timberland, Dan helped the company grow to more than a billion dollars in annual revenue and become the fashion brand it remains today.  These retail experiences gave Dan practical operating experience...from setting seasonal apparel and footwear lines, working with factories, negotiating with retailers, to learning how to stitch an NFL football!

Throughout his retail experience, Dan lived the challenges associated with archaic technology and resistance to change.   This led him to become more involved with innovative software and concepts that promised an improved form of retail.  In 2000, he joined his first SaaS venture, PlumRiver Technology (acquired by Emerald), a leading provider of B2B ecommerce and digital merchandising solutions for both manufacturers and wholesalers in the outdoor and specialty retail market.  Today, PlumRiver supports companies such as Patagonia, Timberland, The North Face, Burton, Puma and many other global brands.

Dan was asked to join another early SaaS company, One Door, as the COO and also become a member of the Advisory Board for Demandware.  Later, he was invited to join the Advisory Board of Next Point, a leading retail technology event, where he worked with Kroger, CVS, Target, Home Depot, Walgreens, and other retailers and brands to find solutions to the challenges facing the industry.

As part of the One Door executive team through its critical early growth, venture investment, and partnership development, Dan experienced the full spectrum of building a company, its brand, and the right culture.  His team executed agreements with AT&T, Best Buy, Motorola, Woolworth's, Verizon, SAP, JDA (Blue Yonder), Oracle and other leading companies, growing One Door's SasS revenue and business operations.  Dan's leadership expanded the company into new strategies and positioned One Door as a software leader in the retail merchandising space.

Dan believes that no one should ever stop learning.  Every day that he’s engaged with innovative companies he learns more about what the future of retail can be.  His traditional education came from the University of New Hampshire, where he's an Adjunct Professor, and later earned an MBA from Thunderbird.   He has lived abroad, speaks Spanish (not as well as he used to!), and is a dual citizen of the US and Germany.
